oranges on red

This is a really weird color scheme. I wanted to see if I could make the oranges read against a red backdrop. The red is pretty much pure cadmium red medium. I found it challenging to read the values with all this red.

I would have to say that the end result is pretty ugly. I don’t think I could live with this on my wall but it was an interesting exercise.

    Bill,

This is the best exercise for practicing color temperature relationships.

I painted tons of the studies….

Orange, Orange cloth, orange bowl, ect. ect.

I wish I could see the original set-up and painting and offer a few suggestions.

I loved the grey-green leaves against the lively red. A bright green would have looked ameturish. I think it would look great on the wall in a series of similar studies in this range.

Hi Steph, maybe it’s not as ugly as I thought. I’ve seen others effectively use a similar color scheme.
