When I started this blog I thought I was going to use it as a way of motivating myself to sketch but I’ve found myself drawn back to oil painting.
I studied painting and printmaking in college and spent several years working as a studio artist doing expressionist style mixed media and, later, oils and watercolors. I never achieved enough financial success to support my family so I gradually abandoned it as my day job took more of my energy and attention.
Though I studied art in college and received a BFA, I never really learned how to paint realistically from life very well. Inspired by the many Drawing and Painting blogs on the web, I’ve been enjoying using this blog to re-teach myself to paint from life.
I hope you enjoy what you see here. Please feel free to let me know by leaving a comment.

I am enjoying what I can see, Bill, but something is preventing the top paintings from downloading completely. I pushed the refresh button several times but I am only getting the sky. The early ones downloaded completely. Glad to have you with us on The Sketching Forum.

This is good work…I saw your sketches on Sketch Forum, which led me here…By far the best stuff I’ve seen come through there…Keep going

BEAUTIFUL style and work! Welcome to EDM — I look foward to seeing more of your wonderful work! I especially love the line and washes!
OKay Bill - I have you listed on my blogroll, and look forward to following your thoughts and projects. i love the sort of drawing which shows strong personal sensibility in markmaking, and yours is chock full of this.
Hi Bill. I was going to put my website, well one of them! Then I figured if you had the time to look at it, you probably will email me. Anyway your art is exceptional.
Hello Bill– your site appeared in one my “quick and dirty” searches for plein air watecolors costa rica.
I have been more deeply appreciating watecolors that have hung on our family’s wall for decades and previously took for granted. They are a link to my childhood and to a time and place where my parents met after WWII.
I haven’t got time tonite to read your Costa Rica journal, but I love the color washes and text–
Your training and background are all areas of interest to me, but never had time to explore.
I promise to come back here and read your journal with the care and curiosity that it deserves.
thank you for posting your art work!
Sincerely,
Elaine.

Hey, Bill. Found your site by accident looking for info about doing some scientific observation drawings with my 7th graders for a unit I’m doing with the science teacher. Love your work.

Hi Bill, Your work is lovely, and don’t you find that putting it in a blog is motivating in a way that is different than working alone? Thanks for sharing, I’ll be back again.

I found you by looking at the list of artist I looked at.
Ujwala lead me to rue Manuel bis and from there to you.
Just started a blog, hoping to find inspiration and an incentive to keep drawing,
and I found much more than I was expecting, specially to be able to see the work of so many talented people.
