A friend and I drove out to Ranier, OR to paint at the defunct Trojan Nuclear Plant (now a park) but there was not much there we were interested in painting so we drove on into the nearby town of Ranier, which is right on the Columbia river. These 2 paintings were done from a parking lot in the town.

“Plein air”? You mean outdoors? On site? Open air? Plain ol’ outside? Your paintings and sketchings are beautiful Bill, art snobbery is not. You know like calling an inkjet print a “giclee” just to hide from people what it actually is. Help keep art honest Bill, by not contributing to the snobbery.

Paul, I appreciate the compliment you give my work. It was not my intention to sound hi falootin’. Plein air is a term commonly used in the US for, as you point out, paintings done in the open air. It is the term that I and other painters I know use when referring to painting this way. I’m sorry if you are offended by it.
